Subject:   dolphin feeding programs

Date:   October 6, 1990

The American Cetacean Society endorses the ban on dolphin feeding programs as expressed in the regulations proposed by the National Marine Fisheries Service in the August 29, 1990 Federal Register.

The foremost purpose of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 is to protect marine mammals and their habitat; it is consistent with this primary purpose to protect wild dolphins from any practices that may alter their natural behavior or have a negative effect on their individual health and that of their social groupings.
